Changgeng Ruan was graduated from Pekin University in 1964, and received his Doctor's degree in Hematology from University Paris VII in France in 1981. During his fellowship at Hospital St. Louis, University Paris VII, France , 1979-1981, he worked on the first monoclonal antibody (MoAb) to human platelet glycoprotein (GP) I, AN51, and elucidated that GPIb on the platelet membrane is the vWF receptor in the process of platelet adhesion. Under his direction, an international recognized SZ-series MoAbs against platelet membrane GPs and its agonists (vWF, fibrinogen etc.) has been developed in Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Unit, Jiangsu Institute of Hematology. Prof. Ruan has published 7 scientific books, such as Platelet, Thrombosis and Hemastasis, Hematology and et al, and more than 600 scientific papers among which about 80 papers were published in international journals. Due to his unrelenting endeavours to facilitate the development of Sino-France scientific exchanges & collaboration, professor Ruan was awarded the "Chevalier de l'Ordre National de Merite, Republique Francaise" in 1994, the "Foreign Corresponding Academician of French Academy of Medical Science" in 2009 and the "Officier de l'Ordre National de Merite, Republique Francaise" in 2010. In 2014, he received a Servier award from French Academy of Medicine. He was presented Lifetime Achievement Award in Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 2015.
