School of Education in Soochow University is located near the Dushu Lake inSuzhou. Its origins can be traced back to Department of Education of Jiangsu Normal University, later in 1982 renamed as Educational Scientific Research Department of Soochow University, and named as the School of Education in 1999. Many famous scholars had been recruited to teach during the era of School of Education, such as GuShusen, Zhang Huanting, Liu Baichuan, Xin Runtang, Wu Zengjie, Huang Naisong, Shi Qicai etc. In 2007, theschool moved to the new campus nearDushu Lake, where the construction area covers more than 3900 square meters and the working environment has been greatly improved, which laid a solid foundation for the further development of the school. The school has trained and delivered a large numbers of students with excellent educational and psychological skills for the country and also made considerable contributions to the local construction and development of Suzhou City.
1. Overview of the School
School of Education has a Level ? discipline of post-doctoral scientific research mobile stations, doctoral programs for higher education as well as for educational economics, Level ?discipline of master's degree for education and psychology, professional master's degree for applied psychology, vocational and technical education. There are threedepartments in the school, including Department of Education, Department of Psychology, and Department of Technical Education. Soochow University Education Science Research Institute is also affiliated to theschool, which consists of Soochow University Institute of Higher Education, Soochow University Education Science Research Center, Institute of Education, Institute of Applied Psychology, Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, Planning and Policy Research Office, and Learning Science Research Institute. Besides, Soochow University Teachers Training Institute, College Students' Psychological Health Research Center of South Jiangsu are affiliated to the School as well. Except for educating the undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, the School also undertakes the teaching tasks fornormal school education, psychology, educational technology, teacher's oral education, teacher's calligraphy courses and general education courses.
2. Teaching Staff
The faculty has 86 staff members. Teachers are young, with high educational background and attractive professional structure. Among them, 61 are full-time teachers, 73.77% of them have senior titles, including 19 professors, 26 associate professors, 13 doctoral advisors, and 40 master's advisors. There are 55 doctor and doctoral candidates, accounting for 90.16% of the total number of full-time teachers. The average age is 51 for professors, 43 for associate professors, and 39 forlecturers. Furthermore, the school has recruited high prestige scholars fromdomestic or overseasto serve as the visiting or part time professors, such as GuMingyuan, Huang Xiting, Wang Yibing, Peng Kaiping, JinShenghua, Yan Wenfan, Cheng Xing, Luo Yuejia, Fang Fang, GuYuehua.
3. Teaching and Research
Since 2006, the School of Education has won more than 10 awards for teaching achievements at the national, provincial and other levels. The school also cultivated many excellent students, for example, the famous psychologist, Wang Jun, who was responsible for selecting and training China astronauts; and the owner of Olympic weightlifting champion, Chen Yanqing. In scientific research, the school has published more than 100 monographs, and more than 934 research papers . In addition, the school has received 86 outstanding academic awards or honorary titles, including National Outstanding Research Achievement and Outstanding Achievements Award of Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Sciences Research. It also has undertaken 40 Projects from the National Natural Science Fund, National Social Science Fund, and the National project for Educational Science. The school has achievedsome grandprojects, such as the Central-Local Co-construction Projects, and Jiangsu Psychology and Teacher Education Experimental Demonstration Center in 2009, since when the laboratory construction of the school has been upgraded to a higher development platform.
With precise, pragmatic educational philosophy and teaching attitude, the school focuses on student's future and attaches great importance to the improvement of students' theoretical knowledge, practical skills and innovative ability. The undergraduate students have won the first prizes in National University "Challenge Cup", "Student's Innovation Experiment Program"(more than 50 times, including 8 national key projects), as well as three national competition awards and 11 provincial awards. The school has long been adhered to the training target of "broad foundation, comprehensive knowledge, strong ability and excellent quality", paying attention to the construction of teaching quality and connotation. All the graduates from the school have been welcomed and praised by the employers both inChina and abroad. The school has also established a "Coagulation Love Fund" and "Soochow University Institute of Education Scholarship" to reward students who are both excellent in character and learning and relieve their finance burdens.

The School of Education has long-term academic exchanges with the universities inthe United States, the UK, the Netherlands and other countries. It has also been a regular academic communication protocol with National University of Tainan, National Chung Cheng University, Fu Jen Catholic University, the University of Wisconsin, Boston University and University of Waterloo in Canada. The School of Education and University of Canberra have established a joint training postgraduate system.
5. Operating Conditions
School of Education is located in the building 1005 in the Dushu Lake campus of Soochow University. The office space is 626 square meters. The teachers' research rooms and workshop roomsoccupy an area of474 square meters, and the laboratory takes1091 square meters. There is a "research center for psychological and behavioral sciences" at the WenhuiBuilding of main campus, covering an area of 1,376 square meters. The reference room is located on the 7th floor of Binglin Library in Dushu Lake campus with an area of 341 square meters. The reference room has a collection of 29000 volumes. There are various professional journals has been subscribed, 20 of them are foreign periodicals. Besides, the reference room also subscribed a full-text database of the American Association of Psychology (PsycARTICLES). TheCollege Students' Psychological Health Research Center of South Jiangsu has set up the branch offices in each campuses of Soochow University. School also published "Educational Forum" by bi-monthly.
