Shagang Iron and Steel College is a comparatively new academic institution established through the joint efforts of Soochow University and Jiangsu Shagang Group Co. Ltd, one of the worldĄŻs top-500 businesses. As the first iron and steel academic establishment in China that are built through such joint efforts, it has started from the very beginning on a vantage point that utilizes the existing related science and technology branches, know-how and talent pool of the university on one hand, and the funds, material and production facilities of the industrial business of the company. Its objectives are to serve as a model of reform on the traditional system of self-contained education, to promote cooperation between the sectors of production, education and research, and to accelerate the process of development towards a new system for teaching and researching that are well-tuned to the status quo and needs for innovation of the contemporary iron and steel industry. In particular, the college set as its targets to develop into a first-rate academic institution that educates new-type talents with an international vision, innovativeness, and practical work capacity.
