2016 New Year Concert Staged at Soochow

On the evening of January 8th, 2016 New Year Concert of Oriental Wisdom Lake co-hosted by Soochow University and the Administration Committee of Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District was staged at Dushu Lake Cinema. Directed by Professor Wu Hekun, President of the School of Music and Music Director of Soochow University Philharmonic, the orchestra made an excellent performance for the audience. More than one thousand people came to attend the very concert, among who including President Zhu Xiulin of Soochow University, Mr. Zhu Enyu, President of HK Xianglong Co., Ltd, Hong Kong Shanyuan Foundation, CW CHU Education Foundation and Honorary President of C.W. Chu College of Soochow University.

The New Year Concert was given by teachers and students from Soochow University, and it is also the first time that students and teachers of Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District give such a grand show all by themselves.

At the very beginning of the concert, President Zhu Xiulin delivered a new year's speech. He said that as a magic language used by all people around the world, music always serves as the bridge of communication and it can bring people together. Music opens people's hearts for truth, goodness and beauty by broadening their horizons. Zhu also wished that the concert would make SIP a night of art and enrich the life of the residents.

Musics blared during the concert include Bizet's Prelude to Carman by the Philharmonic of Soochow University, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante K.364 and Haydn's part of Symphony No.94 in G Major by Master Performer Paul Silverthorne from London Royal Symphony Orchestra and Miss Song Xinyu, a young violinist and teacher of the School of Music who joined Soochow recently. The concert came to its climax with two operas sang by famous mezzo-soprano Yang Guang and soprano Li Xiuying, namely the Heart of a Woman and parts of Norma. Their loud and sharp singing styles echoed with rhythmic symphonies harmoniously and offered the audience with great enjoyment.

The concert came to an end with the melody I Love You, China, and enjoyed sustained applauses form those indulging audiences.

The majority of the audience were the faculty and young students from the many universities in the Science and Education Innovation District. A student from the School of Music remarked that the concert was awesome, and the direction of Professor Wu Hekun was considered as perfect. He also believed that the concert has bestowed him with great inspirations and helps in his studies. A member from the faculty of Soochow University was impressed by the harmony between all the members the symphony orchestra during related performances. Given the profound effects of the songs sung by the two great singers, he thought the concert was terrific.
