"'I Love Soochow University' International Student Carnival" Successfully Held

On the afternoon of November 18, the "'I Love Soochow University' International Student Carnival" was held in our east campus. The carnival was chiefly organized by our School of Overseas Education and co-organized by multiple schools and departments of our university, as well as the Zhonglou community, the Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute, and several affiliate organizations.,. Hundreds of international and Chinese students from our university, coming from 40 countries in all, presented exotic delicacies from their homeland and shared brilliant artistic performances.

Vice-president Jiang Xinghong delivered a speech at the talent show. "In recent years, we have been implementing our strategy of education internationalization in depth and actively promoting international cooperation and exchanges as well as the development of our international student education. This carnival not only provides a stage for international students to share their national culture and individual talent, but also provides a good opportunity to strengthening cross-cultural interaction, deepening exchanges among international students, and enriching the extra-curricular activities of both international students and Chinese students. I hope our international students can persist in studying Chinese culture and in their study of professional knowledge so as to make contributions to your country's development and to become envoys to promote exchange, cooperation, and friendship between China and the world," she said.

At the talent show, both international students and Chinese students presented stunning programs. The Peking Opera and erhu performances of our international students were strong and memorable; there were fascinating folk dances from Nigeria, Azerbaijan, India, and Laos; both the Iranian drum performance and the South Korean performance of Chunhyang were exciting and reverberated with the audience. Chinese students presented lion dances, martial arts displays, and other Chinese traditional cultural performances. In the performances, both foreign and Chinese cultures were shown at their brightest, so the audience often burst into applause and adulation.

Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute and the Zhonglou community organized the local folk handcraft artists, painters, calligraphers, and opera enthusiasts of Suzhou to exhibit Chinese traditional culture.
