Soochow University Achieved Good Results in the Drama Performance of College Students in the 2020 Zijin culture and Art Festival

On October 30th, the Award Ceremony of the Drama Performance of College Students in the 2020 Zijin culture and Art Festival was held at Jiangsu Centre for the Performing Arts. The original drama “Ding Xiang ? Ding Xiang” performed by Soochow University won the Special Prize, and Soochow University won the “Award for Excellent Organizer”. Several government leaders and prestigious performers attended the event, including Deputy Director Xu Ning from the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Director Li Jinquan from Jiangsu Education Department, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Ye Biaorong from Jiangsu Cultural Investment Group, President Pu Cunxin from China Theatre Association, National Level Screenwriter Yang Jinsong, President Chang Xiaochuan from Nanjing Huajutuan, Director Li Zhuoqun from Jingju Theatre Company of Beijing.

Co-sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and Jiangsu Federation of Literary and Art Circles, 2020 Zijin Culture and Art Festival was held from September 30th to October 30th. As an important part of the stage art performance section of the art festival, college students’ drama performance activities have been positively responded by colleges and universities, and 20 plays of 18 colleges and universities have been applied for. After the organization of expert evaluation, eight plays were selected, including the original drama “Ding Xiang ? Ding Xiang” from Soochow University original drama and the original musical “Choosing Life” from Nanjing University of the Arts, to participate in the live performance.

The original drama “Ding Xiang ? Ding Xiang” was based on the true story of Ding Xiang, a heroic alumnus of Soochow University. It was co- produced by the Publicity Department of the Party committee of Soochow University, the Youth League Committee and the Art Education Center. It was written by Wang Yuming and directed by Hao Guang. Soochow Drama Club and Soochow Art troupe of Soochow University completed rehearsals and displayed the achievements. It was a vivid practice to present, inherit and carry forward the red revolutionary spirit to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

With the opportunity of this drama performance, Soochow University would strive to create more literary works with characteristics of Soochow University, features of times and uniqueness of students. inheriting the spirit of Ding Xiang, telling the story of Soochow University, and promoting aesthetic education to a new level.
