"The 3rd Bilateral Workshop between Soochow University and University of Waterloo" was Held Successfully

A few days ago, "The 3rd Bilateral Workshop between Soochow University and University of Waterloo" was held at the Dushuhu Campus. Jiang Xinghong,Vice-president of Soochow University, and Feridun Hamdullahpur, President of University of Waterloo, were present at the opening ceremony of the workshop.About 40 representatives of teachers and students of our university and University of Waterloo from such fields as pharmacy, material science,chemistry, physics etc attended the workshop. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhen Xuechu, Dean of College of Pharmaceutical of our university.

Vice-president Jiang Xinghong, on behalf of Soochow University, expressed warm welcome to the delegation from University of Waterloo. She briefly introduced the achievements Soochow University has made in discipline construction and reviewed the historyof cooperation between Soochow University and University of Waterloo. She pointed out that the two universities have good cooperation traditions and the cooperation field has expanded from nanotechnology to physics, material science, chemistry, pharmacy etc. She hoped both parties could sincerely cooperate to harvest better fruits of cooperation.

Professor Feridun Hamdullahpur, President of University of Waterloo, and Professor Robert Lemieux, Dean of School of Science of University of Waterloo made a speech respectively. They expressed congratulations to the holding of the workshop and hoped that the two universities would have closer contact and more extensive and in-depth cooperation.

After that, teachers of University of Waterloo and Soochow University elaborately prepared 17 sessions of academic reporting.In addition, scholars of the two universities conducted active discussions on the frontier academic problems in such aspects as the R&D of new solarcells, compound of functional materials, study of safety of gene therapy,R&D of anti-cancer drugs, study of new nano-carrier drugs, discovery of novel antitumor target of neurodegenerative disease treatment etc.
