"Mathematics-centered Core Attainment Seminar & National Mathematics Education Graduate Students’ Forum 2016" was Successfully Held

During May 21-22, the "Mathematics-centered Core Attainment Seminar & National Mathematics Education Graduate Students' Forum 2016" jointly organized by our Graduate School and School of Mathematical Sciences was successfully held at the Tiancizhuang Campus. A total of more than 110 people including experts, young scholars and graduate students from Korean Society of Mathematics Education (KSME), Chinese Mathematical Teaching Research Association (CMTRA) as well as some universities and basic education institutions attended the opening ceremony.  

Vice-president Jiang Xinghong delivered a speech on behalf of Soochow University. She introduced our university's history and school running situation as well as the disciplinary development and achievements of our School of Mathematical Sciences. She hoped that the "Mathematics-centered Core Attainment Seminar" can promote the disciplinary development, mathematical education research and cultivation of mathematical education talents of our School of Mathematical Sciences.


Yu Ping, Vice-chairman of CMTRA and Director of Institute of Curriculum and Instruction of Nanjing Normal University, encouraged the present young scholars and students majoring in mathematical education to cherish this exchange opportunity, be brave in raising questions and widely make academic friends, and he wished the seminar a complete success.  


Zhu Jiangang, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Mathematical Sciences, presided over the seminar. "I hope opinion collision, integration and innovation can appear at this seminar and have a positive effect on mathematical education," he said.  


This seminar was divided into five sub-forums. Four professors including Wang Xiaoqin and Yu Ping introduced respectively the frontline work about mathematical core attainment research from such angles as mathematics and music, extraction of mathematical core attainment elements, connotation and evaluation of students' mathematical core competence, problems about history of mathematics and mathematical core attainment, and core attainment in mathematics classroom teaching. Other experts present at the seminar, centering on 40 academic papers, conducted exchanges and discussions and put forward suggestions and directions for the revision of these graduate students' scientific research papers. The student representatives expressed that they have benefited a lot from the seminar. The cutting-edge lectures and the experts' comments have inspired their further reflection on their research, and the experts who have passion for and rigorous attitude towards mathematical study will become their role model. The seminar has reached the expected results.
