Introduction

Natural Speech: Stress, Rhythm and Intonation

This workshop will focus on pronunciation with an overview of techniques for speaking naturally and training others to do the same. The first building block of natural speech is understanding and identifying word and sentence stress. Next, an understanding the importance of and rules of English Rhythm. Finally, exercises that demonstrate the importance of tone of voice and intonation in English speech. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of how to teaching speaking and more natural speech.

 

Making Grammar More Fun: Games and Activities for Grammar Instruction

There's no getting around it: grammar is essential in language study, but it doesn't have to be learned through dull, monotonous drilling. Grammar can be fun, and in this workshop the presenter will share a plethora of games and activities designed to integrate with various grammar elements. Participants will play along as the presenter demonstrates multiple applications for several game types. Resources and other ideas for spicing up grammar class will be discussed, and participants will also be given the opportunity to share or create their own grammar integration activities

 

 

Speaker Biography

Sushan Richardson is a participant in the English Language Fellow Program, a U.S. Department of State, now teaching in South China Normal University. She holds an MEd in TESOL from Huntington University, in Indiana, and has earned multiple TEFL Certifications including a Cambridge English CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). She has years of teaching experience in the US, Ukraine, Georgia, Lithuania and China.

 

Dani Francuz Rose is a participant in the English Language Fellow Program, a U.S. Department of State, currently hosted by Anhui University in Hefei. Dani has been an English language instructor based in Atlanta, GA for the past 5 years. She received her Master's degree in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University in 2014

During her time at various U.S. institutions, Dani has taught a wide range of courses including Integrated Skills, Vocabulary and Idioms, TOEFL Prep, Extensive Reading, and Academic Writing. Recently, she also completed a yearlong Fulbright grant at the University of d? in Poland, where she was able to focus on the context of English teaching outside the United States.
