Title: A Ramble on Scientific Research and Paper Writing

Introduction:

Having strong scientific research ability is a basic quality for foreign language teachers and graduates in the new era. A person who devotes himself to foreign language education should constantly discover problems in theory and practice, try hard to solve problems, and constantly improve his scientific research ability. This lecture is specially designed for teachers and graduate students. It is based on the reporter's years of experience as editor-in-chief of magazines and scientific researcher. The lecture is divided into six aspects, including the nature and awareness of foreign language scientific research, the types of foreign language academic papers, the determination of academic paper topics, the research methods of academic papers, foreign language journals and submission paths, papers, knowledge and realm, which together constitute the basic elements of paper writing and are the necessary knowledge accomplishment of scientific researchers.

 

A Brief Academic Biography of Professor Xu Yulong:

Wang Mingyu, second-tier professor, doctoral supervisor and postdoctoral cooperation supervisor, former vice-president of Tianjin Foreign Studies University, chairman of the Committee of Semiotics of the Association for Logic in China, president of the National Institute of Language and Semiotics, and member of the core team of the National High-end Think Tank of the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau. "Longjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor", Tianjin Distinguished Professor, Tianjin Outstanding Jinmen Scholar, Heilongjiang Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert, Tianjin Famous Instructor, Russian Pushkin medal winner, Russian "Friendship and Cooperation" medal winner, and receiver of the State Council Special Allowance.

He was the deputy editor-in-chief of the Journal of PLA University of Foreign Languages, the editor-in-chief of Foreign Language Research, the editorial board of 10 foreign language journals in China, and the reviewer of Social Sciences in China. He is also the vice chairman of the Russian branch of the National Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee, the president of the Tianjin Institute of Foreign Languages, a distinguished expert of the National Textbook Commission, a visiting professor and part-time researcher at 12 universities and research institutions.

Since 1993, he has been guiding graduate students. In 2001, he has been guiding doctoral students. In 2004, he has been guiding postdoctoral students. He has achieved some accomplishments in the fields of linguistic semiotics, general linguistics, functional linguistics and foreign language teaching theory, etc. He has published more than 100 papers in such important newspapers as People's Daily, Guangming Daily, Social Sciences in China, and Foreign Language Teaching and Research and so on. He has also published 43 monographs, translations and teaching materials (representative works include: Linguistic Semiotics, Modern Linguistic Semiotics, Semiotic Ideology, Functional Linguistics, New Foreign Language Teaching Theory, The Construction of "the belt and road initiative" Needs to Build Language Strategies, etc.). He has completed 8 projects above the provincial and ministerial levels, and won 2 key projects from the National Social Science Fund.
