The Special Consultative Session for the Key Lab of Radiological Medicine & Radiation Protection Successfully Held in Beijing

Hosted by Vice Minister Huang Wei of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), the special consultative session for the key laboratory of radiological medicine andradiation protection co-built by MOSTand Jiangsu Provincial government was held in Beijingon the morning of April 27th. Attendees of the special session include Huang Wei, a member of the Party committee and the vice minister of the MOST, Ma Qiulin, the vice governor of Jiangsu provincial government, XiongSidong, the president of Soochow University, Lu Jianmei, the deputy secretary of the Party committee and the vice president of the university, Academician Chai Zhifang, the director of the very key laboratory, and other leaders and scholars.

 

At the special session, Academician Chai Zhifang, after offering a general introduction to the objectives and significance of building the national key laboratory of radiological medicine andradiation protection, introduced the bases and advantages of Soochow University in the field of radiological medicine andradiation protection. In terms of the construction methods and processes of the national key laboratory, he reported the current progresses and development plans of the lab from the perspectives of positioning and planning, scientific objectives, major tasks, systems & mechanisms, construction planning and performance evaluation indexes.

 

On behalf of the university, President XiongSidong made a report on the favorable construction and operation conditions for the establishment of the national key laboratory of radiological medicine andradiation protection and expressed his gratitude to the authorities including the MOST, Jiangsu provincial government, the science and technology department of Jiangsu province, and Suzhou municipal government for their great supports. He pointed out that since the preparations for the construction of the national key laboratory of radiological medicine andradiation protection in 2010, the university has developed the lab into a distinctive and internationally advanced experiment center with original research results in the past few years.

 

On behalf of the science and technology department of Jiangsu province, the competent authority of the key laboratory, Director-General Wang Qin introduced the supports received by the lab and expressed his thanks for MOST’s assistance to the science and technology businesses in Jiangsu province. As the competent authority, the science and technology department would shoulder its responsibilities in the next phase by approving the projects of the lab preferentially in the application process of provincial science and technology projects and plans during its operation period and providing 10 million yuan for the construction of the lab each year. Meanwhile, the department would also guarantee the development of the lab by bettering its team construction,the introduction of top talents, the cultivation of leading personnel, and the construction of necessary conditions for scientific researches, 

 

With an in-depth discussion about the construction, operation, management and other affairs of the lab, attendees including Director Ye Yujiang, Deputy Director Guo Zhiwei, and Vice President Lu Jianmei reached a consensus about promoting the construction of the laboratory.

 

After expressing his gratitude for MOST’s long-term supports and directions to the scientific innovation works in Jiangsu province, Vice Governor Ma Qiulin claimed that the provincial government would promote the construction level, operation efficiency and development quality of relevant laboratories by providing them with favorable resources, forces, and policies.

 

At the end of the special session, Vice Minister Huang Wei concluded given that Jiangsu province and Soochow University were fully prepared and provided all the necessary conditions for the construction of the key laboratory, he agreed that the construction issues passed the consultative session. Meanwhile, he pointed out that the province should attach great importance to the construction works of the national key laboratory co-built by MOST and Jiangsu province. Hopefully, the laboratory could make greater contributions to national strategies and the social and economical development in Jiangsu province after growing into an important regional base to organize high-level scientific researches, gather and cultivate excellent scientific researchers, and launch academic exchanges.

 

In addition, attendees at the special session also reached a consensus on issues like the construction of the national key laboratory co-built by MOST and Jiangsu province, the management authority of the lab, the support plans and subsequent work arrangements. In the next phase, the science and technology department of Jiangsu province would ask Soochow University to prepare the implementation plans for the construction and operation of the key laboratory. After that, these plans would be evaluated together with the experts assigned by the Department of Basic Research of the MOST.
