Professor Shi Yufang elected as Academician of the Acadamia Europaea

On August 26, Professor Shi Yufang of Soochow University received letter from Professor Sierd Cloetingh, the President of Acadamia Europaea, with sincere congratulations to Professor Shi on his successful election as Academician of the Acadamia Europaea.

  

The subject areas of the Acadamia Europaea cover natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, science and technology, economics, law, etc. It is a scientific organization with high academic status in the international academic fields. The Acadamia Europaea has more than 4,000 members from 54 countries, including 73 Nobel Prize winners, 6 Turing Prize winners, 15 Fields Medal winners and 43 Wolf Prize winners.


 

 Professor Shi Yufang is a pioneer in the field of stem cell and immune research. He is the first scientist around the world to activate and induce lymphocyte apoptosis. Professor Shi has laid a series of important theoretical foundations for the application of stem cells, tumor immunotherapy and drug research as well as the development of autoimmune diseases.

  

Professor Shi Yufang received his Ph.D. degree in immunology from the University of Alberta, Canada in 1992, and established laboratories at George Washington University as well as American Red Cross Holland Institute in 1995. Then he was promoted to be a distinguished professor at the University of New Jersey in 2002. From 2008 to 2014, Professor Shi served as researcher and director of the Institute of Health Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then he was appointed as the Dean of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University in 2014. At the same time, he served as the distinguished professor of the University of Rome Tor Vergate and the Secretary-in-general of the Center for Excellence in Medical Research. Professor Shi is the editor-in-chief of the journal Cell Death and Disease and the Associate Editor of the journal Oncogene etc. He is also as the seven core members of the Mesenchymal stem Cell Branch of the International Society for Cell Therapy, the consultant of EU-MSC2 of the European Union and so on. Professor Shi has published more than 220 research papers included in SCI in internationally renowned academic journals. He has successively won the Award of Contribution to the Overseas Chinese community and the Award of stem cell Achievement transformation of China Cell Society.
