In the sunny and vibrant month of May, Soochow University held its 2024 Alumni Homecoming Day series of events from May 18th to 19th. Soochow alumni from all corners of the world embarked on a heartwarming journey back to their alma mater, reuniting on campus to reminisce about their youth and look forward to a bright future together.
On the morning of May 18th, the Soochow University Alumni Homecoming Conference and Special Music Concert was held at the Enling Art Center on Dushu Lake Campus. The concert, themed "Reuniting to Cherish Memories, Developing Towards the Future," was attended by Deng Min, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Shen Mingrong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President, leaders of relevant functional departments of the university, presidents and representatives of various local alumni associations, returning alumni, and faculty and student representatives from various colleges and departments. The meeting was hosted by Xu Ran, Deputy Secretary-General of the Alumni Association and Deputy Director of the Domestic Cooperation and Development Office.
This year marks not only the 124th anniversary of Soochow University but also the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the Physics discipline, the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering discipline, the 100th anniversary of the Sports major, and the 60th anniversary of the School of Radiation Medicine and Protection and the School of Public Health. At the conference, Xie Yanlan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Physic Science and Technology, Li Xiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Zhang Dazhi, Deputy Dean of the School of Physical Education and Sports, Cao Jianping, Executive Dean of the School of Radiation Medicine and Protection, and Zhang Zengli, Dean of the School of Public Health, jointly lit up the anniversary commemoration activation pillar on stage.
Subsequently, musical pieces such as "Evening Party," "Spring Joy," "The Italian Girl in Algiers," "Skating Waltz," and "Ode to Youth" were performed one after another. The teachers and students of the School of Music expressed their blessings to their alma mater and paid tribute to their youth through beautiful melodies, and their brilliant performances won rounds of applause from the audience.
On the afternoon of May 18th, the inaugural Law Alumni Development Forum, hosted by the Law Alumni Association and the Kenneth Wang School of Law, was held in the Dongwu Lecture Hall. With the theme of "Legal Guarantee for the Business Environment," more than 300 alumni gathered at their alma mater to engage in heated discussions on topics such as "Government Rule of Law and Business Environment," "Legal Services and Business Environment," "Companies, Contracts, and Business Environment," and "Bankruptcy, Enforcement, and Business Environment."
It is reported that during the Alumni Homecoming Day, the university provided returning alumni with complimentary alumni meal vouchers and souvenirs, as well as undergraduate admissions policy consultation services, official cultural and creative stamp collections, special exhibitions, and other activities. The university also set up multiple check-in points on campus, inviting alumni to experience the profound heritage of their alma mater together and fondly recall their wonderful years at the university.
