On July 15, a four-member delegation from Chancay, Peru, visited our university. The delegation included Ivonne Huarancca, City Councilor and Mayor's Representative of Chancay; Dipas Hector, Mayor of Kimbiri; Juan Zubiate, Political Advisor to the Congress; and Li Peng, International Cooperation Assistant Coordinator of Chancay. They were accompanied by Hong Jun, Deputy Director, and Guo Renjie, Director of the American and Oceanian Affairs Division from the Foreign Affairs Office of Suzhou Municipal People's Government. Our Vice President Wu Jiawei received the delegation at the Honglou Conference Center. The meeting was also attended by Li Yanguang, Director, and Zi Hong, Deputy Director of the International Office of Soochow University; Yang Xuezhen, Deputy Dean of the School of Biology & Basic Medical Science; and Gui Yi, Head of the Spanish Department, School of Foreign Languages, Soochow University.
Wu Jiawei provided a concise overview of the university's historical evolution, disciplinary development, and talent cultivation programs. She emphasized that universities serve as vehicles for cultural inheritance and civilizational exchange. Wu expressed hope that this visit would serve as a catalyst for establishing collaborations with Peruvian institutions of higher learning. She envisioned initiating a diverse array of cultural exchange activities, which could lay the groundwork for future cooperation in student exchanges and faculty training programs. Ultimately, these efforts aim to jointly advance scientific and cultural exchanges between China and Peru.
Ivonne Huarancca expressed her gratitude for the warm reception at our university. She noted that Soochow University possesses advanced concepts and rich experience in higher education. The Chancay delegation, invited to visit China, looks forward to establishing a sister city relationship with Suzhou and exploring possibilities for cooperation in trade, culture, and education between the two cities. Hector emphasized that the establishment of a sister city relationship would greatly promote trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two cities. He expressed hope that in the near future, young Peruvians could be sent to Soochow University for exchange and study, strengthening interactions among university youth while fostering exchange and cooperation between the two countries.
Prior to the talks, the delegation toured the former site of Soochow University and the museum at our university's Tiancizhuang Campus.
