Four Professors Selected as Members of the Third Group of Leading Talents in S&T Innovation under the "Ten Thousand Talent Program"


The general office of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC officially publicized the name list for the third group of candidates selected in the "Ten Thousand Talent Program" in the Notice for Issuing the Name List for the Third Group of Candidates Selected in the Ten Thousand Talent Program. Professor Zhang Xiaohong, Professor Liu Zhuang and Professor Tang Jianxin from the FUNSOM and Professor Yan Feng from the College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science are selected as Members of the "Third Group of Leading Talents in Science & Technology Innovation".


The State-level "Ten Thousand Talent Program" is also known as "National High-level Talent Special Support Plan", or "National Special Support Plan" in abbreviation. As a high-level talent support plan, the program features wide ranges, multiple departments, and a long period. Co-set by 11 ministries and departments, including the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the program aims to prepare high-level innovative talents and entrepreneurs and have them facilitate the construction of an innovative country by providing special supports for distinguished talents, pioneers and excellent youngsters in natural sciences, engineering, and philosophy and social sciences. Generally, the Ten Thousand Talent Program can be divided into three hierarches, namely Outstanding personalities, Leading researchers and Young top-notch talents.


It is reported that the name list for the third group of candidates selected in the Ten Thousand Talent Program covers 1635 talents in 5 categories and 2 hierarches, among which 720 researchers are leading talents in Science & Technology Innovation, 367entrepreneurs are leading talents in technology entrepreneurship, 215 are leading talents in philosophy and social sciences, 195 are outstanding teachers, and 138 are Young top-notch talents. Among all the candidates, the leading talents in Science & Technology Innovation and those in in technology entrepreneurship are selected from the researchers and entrepreneurs in the Innovative Talent Promotion Program, the leading talents philosophy and social sciences are selected from the Cultural Celebrities i.e. "Four Batches of Top Experts" Project, and the leading talents under the One Hundred, One Thousand and Ten Thousands of Talent Program are also selected from the very program.



Brief Introduction of Professor Zhang Xiaohong 


Professor Zhang Xiaohong is a Ph.D supervisor and the Vice President of Soochow University. Meanwhile, as the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Mr. Zhang also serves as a special term professor under the Cheung Kong Scholars Program. After getting his bachelor and master degrees from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1989 and 1992 respectively, Zhang earned a doctoral degree at Beijing Institute of Technology in 1996. From 1999 to 2001, and in the year of 2003, Zhang also promoted himself by working as post-doctoral visiting scholars and advanced visiting scholars at the COSDAF of the City University of Hong Kong, and the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge. Moreover, he is also appointed as the chief scientist of Program 973, and the director of theInnovation Teams in Selected Areas of PriorityunderMinistry of Science and Technology. Besides, as the holder of theState Council Special Allowance, Professor Zhang was also selected as a national candidate for the One Hundred, One Thousand, and Ten Thousands of Talent Program in a New Century, and a candidate of the One Hundred Talent Program—the Recruitment Program of Global Experts under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.


Brief Introduction of Professor Liu Zhuang 


As the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Mr. Liu Zhuangalso serves as a professor and a Ph.D supervisor of FUMSOM, Soochow University. After getting the bachelor degree in science from the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University in 2004, he obtained the doctoral degree in chemical engineering at Stanford University in 2008. From 2008 to 2009, Liu continued his researches at Stanford Chemistry and Stanford Medicine as a post-doctoral scholar. Liu has been focusing on the studies in biological materials and tumor nanotechnology in recent years. He has published over 240 academic papers. With a SCI H-index of 87, the papers of Professor Liu have been cited for over 33000 times. Besides, Professor Liu was selected as the most cited scholar in China (materials science) by Elsevier for four consecutive years from 2014 to 2017. Meanwhile, he was also honored as the Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate Analytic (former Thomson Reuters) for three consecutive years from 2015 to 2017. In 2018, Professor Liu was selected as a Special Term Professor under the Cheung Kong Scholars Program (publicized already). Furthermore, Mr. Liu also serves as an editorial board member of many influential international journals and the associate editor of Biomaterials, a world-famous periodical in biological materials. In addition, the team led by Professor Liu also won the first-class award of the Jiangsu Provincial Awards in Science and Technology. 


Brief Introduction of Professor Tang Jianxin 


As a professor and doctoral supervisor of FUNSOM, Soochow University, Mr. Tang earned his bachelor degree at Zhejiang University in 2002, and the doctoral degree at the City University of Hong Kong in 2006. From 2005 to 2006, Professor Tang furthered his researches at the Ueno Lab of Chiba University. After that, Tang also served as an advanced research assistant at the Centre of Super-Diamond and Advanced Films of the City University of Hong Kong from 2006 to 2007, and the design engineer for the chips used in power components at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 2007 and 2008. Besides, Professor Liu holds over 10 patents, and has published one English book (chapter) and over 100 SCI papers in many well-known periodicals like Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Adv. Energy Mater., ACS Nano, Sci. Rep., and Appl. Phys. Lett..


Brief Introduction of Professor Yan Feng 


As the winner of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, Mr. Liu Zhuangalso serves as a professor and a doctoral supervisor of the College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Soochow University. By focusing on the studies in ionic polymerfunction materials and the researches in the application basis of related materials, Professor Yan has made many beneficial explorations and come up with a series of new ideas and methods in the areas regarding new functional molecular materials, and the solid electrolyte materials constructed by integrating the electroconductibility of ionic polymer and exchangeability of ions. He has published over 130 academic papers in international periodicals, and his researches aforementioned has been highlighted by influential international periodicals and media for over 10 times.
