Recently,  Talent Development Strategy Symposium for Radiochemistry hosted by the Department of Chemical Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China, sponsored by National Laboratory of Radiology and Radiation Protection, was held at Soochow University. More than 250 representatives from 51 domestic radiochemistry research and teaching units, China Academy of Engineering Physics, China Institute of Atomic Energy, Tsinghua University, Peking University, etc. attended the event. The symposium aims to further promote the cultivation of high-level and innovative talents in the field of radiochemistry in China, strengthen academic exchanges in the field, enhance mutual cooperation among domestic research teams, promote the development of disciplines, and serve the needs of the country.

At the opening of the conference, Jiang Yong, Secretary of CPC Soochow Committee, offered a brief introduction to the status quo of Soochow and expressed his sincere gratitude to the experts for their assistance in the application, construction and development of the School of Radiation Medicine and Protection and the National Laboratory of Soochow. Secretary Jiang Yong said that with the efforts of all of experts, the construction of radiochemistry will certainly achieve more fruitful results and make more and greater contributions.

Prof. Zhuang Junkun, director of the section four of the department of chemical sciences of National Natural Science Foundation of China, expressed his gratitude to Soochow University for hosting the seminar, and thanked the experts for participating in the meeting. He said that thanks to the reform of the Chemistry Department of the Fund Committee, the research level of radiochemistry and radiation chemistry has progressed significantly in recent years. It is hoped that the radiochemistry will be better and better through this seminar, which not only to do basic research, but also to face the major needs of the country and to solve the actual problems.

At the meeting, Chai Zhifang, Dean of the School of Radiation Medicine and Protection of the School of Medicine and Director of the National Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Radiation Protection of Soochow University, delivered a speech titled "The Successor of Radiochemistry in China". In his speech, Chai reviewed previous symposiums and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the past generation of scientists who have made significant contributions to the development of radiochemistry in China and the development of radiochemistry. He also expressed that nuclear power national security, medical diagnosis and endogenous power and interdisciplinary and so on have become the driving force of radiochemistry and hoped that China will lead the development of some important directions in the field of international radiochemistry within ten years.

Then, Prof. Zhuang Junkun introduced the overall situation of Environmental Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of the Fund Committee in 2019, and put forward precautions for the application of important projects such as distinguished talents and outstanding youth, and gave pertinent views on the development of disciplines and young talents.

In the follow-up reports on unit construction and the invitation report of outstanding young scholars, the leaders of various unit introduced the development of radiation chemistry and the talent team. The outstanding young scholars also showed the research progress and highlights in their respective research fields. In the free communication, the participating experts held a heated discussion around radiochemistry, radiation chemistry, talent training and team building, as well as development frontiers and innovative research.

This conference provided opportunities for learning and communication for the radiochemical scholars across the country, and further clarified the direction and ideas for the development of disciplines and talents training.
