The team of Professor Gao Lei and Professor Xu Yadong from School of Physical Science and Technology has proposed an approach to using the static-like environment induced by a zero-index metamaterial to realize the concept of geometrical-symmetry-free but symmetry-protected BICs.

With the title of “Geometry symmetry-free and Higher-order Optical Bound States in the Continuum”, the research result was published on the Journal of Nature Communications. Corresponding authors include Professor Gao Lei and Professor Xu Yadong from School of Physical Science and Technology, and Associate Researcher FuYangyang from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The first author is Phd Candidate Zhou Qingjia from School of Physical Science and Technology. The paper was supported by several projects at the national and provincial level.
