The Fourth Dongwu Forum - Chinese Non-material Cultural Heritage held at Soochow





On December 21st, the Fourth Dongwu Forum - Chinese Non-material Cultural Heritage was held at Soochow University. The forum was sponsored by Non-material Cultural Heritage Research Center of School of Art. Its aim was to make full use of the abundant non-material cultural heritage in Suzhou and to call for joint efforts of different social sectors to protect and develop Chinese culture. The first part of the forum was hosted by Professor Zhang Pengchuan from the School of Art and the presenters included Professor Du Xiaofan from UNESCO Beijing Branch, Professor Li Ninazu from Tsinghua Univeristy, Mr. Huang Rongguang fellows from China Science Academy, Mr. Gong Ping from Suzhou Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection Office, and Professor Yuan Xuanping from Zhejiang Industrial Univeristy. Their presentations varied from “Cultural Heritage and Lifestyle” to “Modern Silk Industry and its Cultural Heritage”. The second part of the forum was hosted by Professor Wu Hong from Shenzhen University and the key presentations included “On Onomatopoeia”by Professor Li Lixin from Nanjing University of the Arts, “The Main Bodies in Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection”by Professor Yuan Mu from Soochow University, etc. Professor Hu Ping from Southeast University hosted the third part of the forum and the key topics included Professor Sun Jianjun’s “Enlightenments from Craftsmanship Inheritage”, Professor Shen Aifeng’s “Multi-dimensionalization and Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection”, and “Crisis and Solutions of Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection” by Wang Yan from Suzhou Non-material Cultural Heritage Protection Office.
