Professor Chi Lifeng Won the 2017 IUPAC Award of Distinguished Woman in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering




On International Women’s Day, Ms. Chi, professor of Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials, Soochow University, was elected as the winner of the 2017 IUPAC Award of Distinguished Woman in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, in recognition of the prominent academic achievements she has made in her research.

By convention, this year there are 12 women scientists around the world nominated for this biennial award. And this year’s award ceremony is to be held at the 46th IUPAC Academic Meeting from 14th to 19th in July, 2017, in St Paulo, Brazil.

Aimed at commending women scientists and engineers who have made great efforts in chemistry and chemical engineering, the award of Distinguished Woman in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering was first established by IUPAC in 2011 as part of that year’s international chemistry celebration.


Brief information about Professor Chi Lifeng:

Mrs. Chi joined Soochow University as the distinguished professor of FUNSOM in 2012. In the year of 1982 and 1985, she got B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Chemistry in Jilin University respectively. And in 1989, Mrs. Chi was conferred doctorate in the Georg-August-University of G?ttingen. Between 1990 and 1993, she was engaged in postdoctoral research in Johannes Gutenberg-Universit?t Mainz and BASF Company. She won Lisa-Meitner Award in Germany in 1997. Since 2004, Mrs. Chi began to work as the professor of Physics and Chemistry in Universit?tMünster. Before coming to Soochow University, she worked in Jilin University for 9 years and dedicated herself to the academic research in State Key Laboratory of Supramolecular structure and Materials. She was the winner of ACS Nano Lectureship in 2016. And she has hitherto published over 300 papers in the most authoritative academic journals including Nature, Science,Phy. Rev. Lett and so forth. Her papers have been cited for more than 7,000 times.
