Soochow University Symphony orchestra Performs Beethoven at 2017 Music Season

On April 14th, Soochow University symphony orchestra, supported by the integration development project onSuzhou’sinstitutions of higher learning and city constructions, performed Beethoven as part of 2017 Music Season in Building 601, Dushuhu Campus.On the following day, they made their outside-school debut at Wuxi Poly Grand Theatre and were highly acclaimed by domestic experts as well as the audience. After the introduction of Beethoven and the background of his works given by professor Xiaolong Liu, expert of Beethoven research from Peking University, the performance began.

Under the baton of conductor Dr. Hekun Wu, the Artistic Director of the symphony orchestra, the concert featured Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in C Major, Op.56 in the first half and hisSymphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68, which is also known as “The Pastoral Symphony”, in the second.Guillaume Molko, the concert master of Shanghai Symphony orchestra, was specially invited to be the violin soloist; Dr. Wenbin Ge,cellist and young teacher of Shanghai Conservatory Of Music, the cello soloist; and Dr. Elise Yun, professor inschool of music, Soochow University, the piano soloist.

Founded in 2014, Soochow University symphony orchestra is quite young and full of vigour, consisting of musicians who are undergraduates, postgraduates and international students.It is reported that a new concert themed as “Concerto and Aria”, is going to be held by the symphony orchestra at Suzhou Poly Grand Theatre on June 17th.
