Soochow University implements the technological innovation strategy of having an "indomitable spirit" to achieve results in its research work. As of December 2012, the university’s five disciplines of chemistry, physics, materials science, clinical medicine, and engineering have entered the top 1% in the Global Essential Science Indicator (ESI). In 2012, the university has obtained 295 National Projects in the areas of natural science, including 281 National Natural Science Fund projects, 20 National Key Projects, ranking the 20th for the number of National Natural Science Fund projects. In the area of social science, the university has obtained 33 National Social Sciences and Humanities Fund projects, among which 4 projects are Key Projects, 2 are in the National Philosophy and Social Sciences Library, 3 achievements have won the Jiangsu First Prize, raking the 23rd in the number of National Social Science Fund projects. In 2011, the school ranking achieved a ranking of 26th in the SCI Index. In 2012, the university declared 680 patents, of which 302 are authorized. On April 11th 2013, the Nanotechnology Collaborative Innovation Center, led by Soochow University, was approved by the national "2011 Plan".
