Brief of the Students¡¯ Dormitories

  The students dorms are scattered on the four campuses- the original proper campus, north campus, east campus, and Dushu Lake campus. Of these four, the last one is the new campus and the other three are considered to be the old campuses.

  On the new campus by the Dush Lake, there are two students¡¯ dormitory complexes.

Brief of the Students¡¯ Dormitory Facilities

  On the three old campuses, there are some apartment dormitories with indoor bathrooms for 4-6 persons, charging £¤1000-1200 per person a year; and the rest are mostly furnished with public washrooms, with each room accommodating 5-7 persons, charging £¤500-800 per person a year. All dormitories on Dushu Lake campus are new, furnished with indoor bathrooms and electric fans, each room accommodating 4 persons, charging £¤1200 per person a year. In addition of these basic facilites, , the second complex of the students¡¯ dormitories are also furnished with water heater, charging £¤1500 per person a year.

  The students¡¯ dormitories are to put out the lights at 23:00 from Sunday to Thursday, and at 23:30 on Friday and Saturday. However, this is not imperative during the hot summer (when the day temperature is above 30¡æ) or when it is during the period students prepare for exams at the end of a semester. The gates of dormitories open at 6:00, the same time of light-on.

The Management of Students¡¯ Dormitories

  The management of students¡¯ dormitories is in the charge of the university¡¯s Students¡¯ Dormitory Management Office, which is responsible for handling the procedure of students¡¯ checking in and out£¬room changes, arrangement and annual check of students¡¯ lodging plan, the guidance, supervision and assessment of the property management companies, as well as the review and approval of students¡¯ application for lodging outside campus. Two professional property management companies employed by the Students¡¯ Dormitories Management Office are in charge of the property management of students¡¯ dormitories. One is Suzhou Dongwu Property Management Co., Ltd, affiliated to Suda Faculty Service Group, responsible for the management of the first complex of dormitories on Dushu Lake campus and all dormitories on the old campuses, and the other is Suzhou Zhongsheng Property Management Co., Ltd, responsible for the second batch of dormitories on Dushu Lake campus.

  The function of the property management agents includes the sanitation & security inspection of students¡¯ dormitories, cooperation with Students¡¯ Dormitories Management Office in students¡¯ checking in and out and room changes, routine maintenance, sanitation work of public area in the dormitory buildings and extension areas, security maintaining work, assisting the concerned shools and departments with students¡¯ dormitory culture construction, and offering other related services such as putting up the weather report and Lost and Found, and lending the needle, thread or bicycle pump.

Brief of the Furnishing in Students¡¯ Dormitories and the Requirement for Students

  The ordinary dormitories provide each student with a bed, a desk, a stool and a bookshelf; and the apartment dormitories provide a bed, a desk, a stool and a wardrobe.

  You should protect the furniture you use, for the property management company will have a check of the furniture when you check out, and you must compensate according to the cost if you damaged anything. You need check the furniture and other facilities when you check in, and inform the property management company concerned to have a fix if something was damaged. Otherwise, you might compensate for it when you check out.

Are Electric Appliances Allowed in Students¡¯ Dormitories? What Is the Restriction?

  Students are allowed to use a few low-power electric appliances in dormitories, such as computers, ceiling fans and water dispensers.

  High-power electric appliances are forbidden in students¡¯ dormitories, mainly including quick heaters, water kettles, electric stoves, electric rice cookers, induction cookers and electric blankets, etc. Incandescent lamps are not allowed, and cool light lamps are advocated. Please resist the products with no labels of production date, certification or manufacturer (such as emergency lights, patch boards and chargers made by informal manufacturers).

Do the Students need to pay for water and electricity?

  According to No. [2002] 369 document of Su Charge and No. [2002] 162 of Su Finance, students in ordinary dormitories may use 160 kwh electricity for free per room per year and the extra use will be charged, and there is no restriction for water now (because of the public washrooms); students in apartment dormitories may use 80 kwh electricity and 40 tons of water for free per person per year (summer and winter vacations excluded); as for students in the dormitories complete with water heaters, they could use 320 kwh electricity and 50 tons of water for free per person per year. The extra use is to be charged.

Transactions for Commuting Students?

  Non-Suzhou undergraduates are not allowed to transact the procedures of commuting students, as for Suzhou undergraduates, they need bring forth the original and the copy of their household registration books, and their approved applications with their departments¡¯ stamps and their parents¡¯ signatures. There is no restriction of the native place for postgraduates if they want to transact the procedure. It only need a personal application with an approval stamp of their school (or department). The transaction time is from June 20th to 31st, and you need to move out the dormitory before the summer holiday.

Could Students Change Their Dormitories? What Procedures are needed?

  Generally speaking, it¡¯s not allowed to change dormitories. Under special circumstances, one need write an application, with a stamp of approval by his school (department), and then go to the Students¡¯ Management Office to transact the procedure.
