Soochow
University campus
network is one of the earliest build in China Education and Research Network
(CERNET) and with a comparatively large scale. It was set up in 1995 and so far
with the university¡¯s strong support and large investment, has developed into a
multi-functional connection and wireless network with a 10 gigabit backbone in
6 campuses. The campus network has more than 160 subnetwork covering the key
teaching buildings, research buildings, office buildings and graduate students¡¯
residents and has over 50,000 teacher and student users with 4.2T input
network traffic per day.
Currently, the campus network provides to all the staff and students such
services as connections to CERNET(1G), China Telecom Internet (1 G) and China
Unicom Internet (100M), the multi-link load balance system, IP gateway, WEB
information release, E-mail, junk mails filtering, virus killing online, VPN,
wireless connection and IPv6. Furthermore, a variety of applied systems are
also operated on the campus network, such as administration, teaching, student
management and ¡°Campus One Card¡±.
In
order to further the informationization of the whole university and strengthen
the construction of campus network, the Information Center and the Computer and
Network Management Center merged together and formed Networking Center of
Soochow University in 2006.
The
Networking Center will concentrate on the construction of digital campus and
will put the corresponding construction of network safety into the
consideration. In the near future more SSL VPN connections is considered to be
added to quicken and facilitate the connection to the campus network and the
plan of network traffic supervising will be put into practice to make better
use of connected network.
All the
staff
in the Center will stick to such principles as providing ardent service and
keeping on forging ahead to offer all the staff and students better network and
information service.
Functions
of Network Accounts
Network accounts have two main functions: identity authentication and charging
fees for network usage. Internet users could send and receive e-mails, browse
internet, use wireless network and do many more in the future with their
network accounts.
Connections
to
the Campus Network
The
campus network of Soochow University provides three ways connecting to the
internet: ordinary connection, wireless link and dial-up access. After
connecting to the campus network, the user can visit Soochow University
homepage, networking center, library and other university resources. If the
user wants to visit other external websites such as sina,baidu,163, he needs to
pass the IP gateway, whose website address is http://wg.suda.edu.cn.
How to
Get Access to Resources only Available out
Campus
Users
could visit resources only available out campus by connecting internet
through VPN. He needs to key in vpn.suda.edu.cn and then log in with his
network account.
Functions of
"Campus
Card"
The main functions of
¡°campus cards¡± are identity authentication and electronic payment. They can be
used to pay for meals in canteens, shopping in supermarkets on campuses, hot
water and bath or as library cards and pass-cardsPost-registered Campus Card.
For
New "Campus Card"
If a student loses his ¡°campus card¡±, he
needs to report the loss first either by ATM with a touch screen or the
touch-and-control machine or to the staff in the Campus Division of the
Networking Center with his ID card or other certificate that can prove his
identity. And then he has to go to the Campus Card Counter in the Center hall
in person taking his ID card and applies for a new
one.

The student may check his consumption records at ATM with a
touch screen or at a touch-control machine. And if he could get connection to
the campus network, he may visit the campus card website at http://card.suda.edu.cn.
