In order to welcome the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, learn, inherit and carry forward the red revolutionary spirit, and present a gift to the 120th anniversary of the founding of Soochow University, the original drama “Ding Xiang·Ding Xiang” was staged in Dushu Lake theater on the evening of September 26th.

The drama was based on the true story of Ding Xiang, a heroic alumnus of Soochow University. During her study in Soochow University, she fell in love with Yue Yuhong and went on the revolutionary road together. They joined the Communist Party of China and married with approval of the organization. Shortly after their marriage, Ding Xiang was arrested and secretly killed in Yuhuatai of Nanjing by Kuomintang reactionaries.

The drama selected five different typical scenes from 1927 to 1987, and reproduced the legend of Ding Xiang,Yue Yuhong and Shi Zhongman, which showed their deep love, firm belief and ideal feelings.

It was worth mentioning that the third act was almost English dialogue, conforming to the character relationship between Ding Xiang and her adoptive mother white and the special situation in prison, and reflecting the real historical background of teaching in English in Soochow University.

After watching the performance, Deng min, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, pointed out that the drama profoundly interpreted the touching story of the ancestors who shed their blood for their ideals and beliefs. Advanced socialist culture and excellent traditional culture were integrated in this drama, and the spirit of Ding Xiang would become the spiritual strength to push people from Soochow University forward.
